"My name is Michelle Tam and I took beginning swim lessons from Malia between the ages of 6 and 7 years old. She was my swim instructor at Konawaena Pool and then at Jack's Diving Locker. We worked in a small group and Malia introduced me to floating and breathing at first, and then taught me to go from a dog paddle swimmer to a nice freestyle style that has helped me ever since. Malia was patient and made me feel comfortable in the water. I am now very confident in the water and I love swimming. Malia is great and has definitely guided me to love the sport. I am now 10 years old and currently on the Konawaena Warrior Aquatic Club swim team, and practice daily, and have fond memories of Malia."
"We met Malia a few years ago when our then 3-year old son was in her group class. Because she was so reliable, professional and credentialed (not to mention compassionate and kind to our son), we then asked if she would continue to instruct our son privately. Over the past two years he has steadily improved and greatly enjoys his weekly time with ‘Aunty Malia’ very much. Malia has a well-honed teaching technique and diligence that will help any child become more confident and safe in the water…I highly recommend her! "

"Fred & Malia are experienced instructors. I felt very comfortable asking questions and getting my techniques wrong. They demonstrated professionalism in teaching me and correcting my techniques. I really felt like they were there to support me."

"Our daughter, Coral, had her very first swim lessons with Malia K Silva. Malia was attentive and sensitive to Coral's needs. They quickly bonded and we felt so much safer having our 2 year old around water. Malia created a foundation for Coral that has continued to grow into a love of swimming!"

"I have been certified for CPR and First Aid multiple times, and with Fred I learned a lot of great new things. He speaks clearly, confidently and accurately. If anyone needs help, he will gladly go over things again, and / or show you hands-on. "

"Upon moving to Kona in 2012, I was keen to find a swim class for my infant daughter and was very lucky to come across Malia's classes at Jack's Diving Locker. Under Malia's patient, fun and kind guidance, my daughter has developed an enthusiasm for the water and swimming, along with a healthy regard for water safety. Despite starting out as quite clingy to me in the water, Malia's gentle and individualized approach has meant these days my now two and a half year old daughter is always keen to get to the pool to swim with Malia. My husband and I have also learnt a lot about how to get little ones used to the water which is great for the next baby on the way. I highly recommend Malia's classes!"

"Thank you Malia for teaching my twins Sadie & Soyer how to begin swimming. We have gone through two sessions with Malia, my kids love being in the pool and ocean and have become quite the little fish! I feel confident if they fell in they would be able to keep afloat and swim them selves out. Malia is a first-rate instructor. She's smart, patient, clear, encouraging and engaged. We will return for continuing lessons and my kids always ask when we go by the pool!"

"Taking this class with Fred was great because it was kept very interesting and informational. Usually I lose my train of thought going through First Aid / CPR due to boredom. But Fred told us real-life scenarios, which kept the whole class on-point. I highly recommend taking his course to certify. "

"I love the water and the Ocean and it was important to me that my sons Kainoa and Justin learned to swim when they where babies. I was excited to find Malia Silva who was teaching baby swimming. With a lot of patience and insight she taught us how to teach our babies the basics of swimming. The kids loved the sessions with Malia and their love for swimming continued. When I take them to the beach I know that they are safe and we enjoy to swim and dive together."

"As a former Red Cross Instructor, I really enjoyed and appreciated Fred’s teaching style. While it is clear, he has a great deal of experience in the field of safety, he is also an excellent instructor with a practical, down-to-earth and effective method of teaching students young and old. Fred shares his personal experiences and that helps to bring this dry subject matter to life! "
